Overview

Known as “England`s Golf Coast” this part of the British Isles – and this is a tough one for a Scot with some Irish heritage to admit – arguably has the best in depth selection of quality courses on offer on these islands! The no. 1 rated course in England by so many people Royal Birkdale is only marginally the best course in the seaside town of Southport as many rate Hillside, a PGA and British Masters tour venue,  and Formby as highly not to mention a course good enough to have hosted the Ryder Cup, Southport & Ainsdale or Open qualifier  Hesketh: Move to Lytham St Annes and you have four great courses too with Open venue Royal Lytham at the peak. Onto the area which hosts Royal Liverpool and there too you have 4 great courses. For those who want great quality golf wall to wall don`t look any further! Many of our clients come in for 5 or 6 days and travel no more than one hour per day whilst playing 5 – 12 world class golf courses!
Caldy

Caldy is a superb 6714 yard course situated at the end of the Wirral Peninsula, alongside the river Dee. Breathtaking views can be enjoyed from the cliff top holes across the estuary towards Hilbre Islands and the coast of Wales. It was Jack Morris, nephew of the famous Old Tom Morris who drew up the Course Plan in 1906 for 9 holes, which were opened in 1907. His fee was £1.11s.6p. (£ 1.57 ½ p)! Twenty three years later, five times Open Champion, James Braid presented his plans for an extended 18 hole course which was opened in 1931. Braid received 10 Guineas for his efforts which stand comparison with any of the great courses in this part of the world!

Formby Golf Club

Formby Golf Course, North West England

A great course which has hosted many Amateur championships and will host the 2021 Legends Tour event on the European Seniors Tour. A famous British Amateur final here involved 2 times Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal and 8 times European tour order of merit winner Colin Montgomerie won by the Spaniard. The very highly rated course by all our clients was initially designed in 1912 by Open champion Wille Park and altered by 5 times Open champion James Braid in 1922. The R&A`s architect Donald Steel made some changes in the 1980`s and there have been continual tweaks and improvements bringing the experience up to date and one not to be missed!

Royal Lytham Golf Course, North West England

This 11 times Open venue is one of the very best examples of Harry Colt architecture and why modern day esteemed architect Tom Doak points any student of golf course architecture towards the bunkering which is the course`s best feature. We always point clients toward past Open champions here at Lytham and suggest they work on their sand game before playing. Past winners include Gary Player, Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros twice, Tony Jacklin and the first winner at Lytham in 1926 the great Bobby Jones.

Southport and Ainsdale

Southport and Ainsdale Golf Course, North West England

Perhaps the best stretch of quality golf courses in the world can be found around Southport in the North West of England so you can imagine how good this twice Ryder Cup venue is. The fact the layout has remained largely unchanged since that time is testament to the quality of Braid’s design and the terrain on which it sits.

Wallasey

Wallasey Golf Course, North West England

Wallasey was founded in 1891 by members from nearby Hoylake, perhaps because their links was becoming crowded or maybe because Wallasey was more convenient for the many Liverpool businessmen wanting to slip away to play golf. 4 times Open champion Old Tom Morris laid out the links in 1893 with further course improvements made in 1901 by Alex Herd and in 1913 by the great amateur and Open champion Harold Hilton.

West Lancashire

West Lancashire Golf Course, North West England

The West Lancashire Golf Club, founded in 1873, is among the ten oldest clubs in England and boasts one of the most natural and testing links found anywhere in the British Isles. The course was designed by C K Cotton, and is laid out on some 200 acres of land making it a “big” golf course ahead of its time, where the challenge is non-stop and will keep you on your toes from start to finish.
