Map of England showing North East

Overview

The counties in the North East of England have some fabulous golf courses steeped in history and tradition. Of particular interest to many of our clients seeking a more niche product are Ganton where so may marvel at the golf course – one of very few courses which are the brainchild of both Harry Colt and Augusta designer Dr Alistair MacKenzie – and the fact that the Club`s Professional was the only man to win 6 Opens, Harry Vardon! Add in some beautiful Yorkshire scenery and the 1957 Ryder Cup venue of Lindrick along with a great links at Seaton Carew plus so many more.
Ganton

Ganton Golf Course, North East England

A rare club which can boast as its one time Professional the only man so far to have won six Open championships, Harry Vardon. Golf has been played here since 1891 when St Andrews based Tom Chisholm designed the course on perfect sandy soil on this ancient inlet from the North Sea. A world top 100 course had Harry Vardon as its Pro from 1896 until the Open and US Open champion Ted Ray followed him and in 1905 when the combined genius of Vardon, Ray and two 5 times Open champions J.H. Taylor and James Braid combined to refine the course. Many other architects including Harry Colt (1907, 1911 & 1931), Dr Alister McKenzie (1912 & 1920), Tom Simpson (1934) and CK Cotton (1948 & 1952) have added to the continuing improvements making it the masterpiece it is today.

Goswick

Goswick Golf Course, North East England

A wonderful links just on the English side of Hadrian`s wall, Goswick`s wonderful playing characteristics were fashioned by such notable architects as former Open winners Willie Park Jnr and James Braid in the late 1800`s and early 20th century then subtly shaped for modern golf by the great architect Fred Hawtree. A wonderful course to be played by golfers traveling from the East coast of England to Scotland or vice versa.

Lindrick

A course good enough to have hosted the 1957 Ryder Cup won (very unusually in those days!) by Great Britain & Ireland as the US opponents were at the time. A great mix of heathland and moorland golf, this Yorkshire classic boasts 3 Ryder Cup players as members – Lee Westwood, Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Silloth on Solway

Silloth on Solway Golf Course, North East England

Since David Grant laid Silloth golf course out in 1892 over the linksland west of the docks it has been a key tourist attraction. Over the years the course has evolved, with contributions from two great classic designers Dr Alister MacKenzie (of Augusta and Cypress Point) and Willie Park Junior (twice Open champion) as a source of uncertainty, surprise and delight to successive generations.

Seaton Carew

The Old course at Seaton Carew was designed by the same man responsible for so many other great courses like Augusta National and Cypress Point, Dr Alister MacKenzie. The original 14 holes became harder and harder to drain so in the 1920`s the club asked Dr. MacKenzie to design a great, new 8holes on the shoreline which had shifted East on its new dunes.

Woodhall spa

The Hotchkin course is magnificent and ranks in everyone`s top 100 presently 54th in the highly acclaimed “golf.com” rankings having been refurbished by arguably the game`s greatest living architect, Tom Doak.
